RESEARCH INTERESTS

Purpose: you love it, you're great at it, and the world needs it.

COMBINATORICS AND GRAPH THEORY

I enjoy problems that are easy to state but hard to solve! Many discrete math questions revolve around finding efficient algorithms, ideal strategies to win a game, or counting a particular structure with given requirements. Often, I will use the programming language SAGE to generate a lot of small examples.

GRANTS TO SUPPORT EDUCATION

In conjunction with the Whitaker Center for STEM Education, I am a co-PI on the $945k Noyce@FGCU grant that provides scholarships to future STEM teachers. I also help to organize and find funding for GEMS, a weekend program that provides STEM experiences to middle-school girls.

IMPROVING TEACHING EFFECTIVENESS

I am committed to evidence-based teaching and enjoy trying out new methods in my courses, and encouraging others to do the same! I have co-authored a book with POGIL (see below) activities for Finite Math titled "Mathematical Reasoning: a Guided Inquiry" that will be released Fall 2018.
